This article reports the establishment of an isolated, fully functional field intensive care unit (FICU) unit equipped with all necessary critical care facilities as a part of the national pre-emptive preparedness to treat an unexpected surge outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients in Bahrain. One floor of an existing car parking structure was converted into a 130-bed FICU set-up by the in-house project implementation team comprised of multidisciplinary departments. The setting was a military hospital in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and the car park was on the hospital premises. The FICU contained a 112-bed fully equipped ICU and an 18-bed step-down ICU, and was built in 7 d to cater to the intensive care of COVID-19 patients in Bahrain.

Avian trichomonosis is an architypal disease of wild columbids and those birds that predate them. Increasingly though, it has been reported in passerines; a recent and ongoing epidemic in the chaffinches and greenfinches of Europe and outbreaks amongst house finches, American goldfinches and purple finches in North America. The parasite, Trichomonas gallinae, causes lesions in the upper respiratory tract which can cause mortality associated with dehydration and emaciation. This paper reports for the first time, the widespread, endemic and often asymptomatic infection of common mynah (Acridotheres tristis) around the Faisalabad District, Pakistan. Parasite typing was used to investigate the potential for transmission among the frequently sympatric species. Type C parasites were found in mynah, and while this is analagous to the pandemic finch strain which is Type A, it is the first known example of passerine infections of this parasite genotype. Subtype analysis showed the strain to be C4 a subtype which has a widespread distribution in columbids.

The present research is focused on studying the evolution of microstructure and texture of a magnesium based alloy with the target composition Mg–3Al–1Zn–(0.5AgIn). Three samples A, B, and C were warm rolled at 300 °C to a cumulative reduction of 33% in 1, 2, and 8 passes, respectively. The optical microstructures and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) results revealed that sample A possessed more dynamic recrystallization (DRX) as compared to samples B and C. A split of basal pole from normal direction (ND) toward transverse direction (TD) was observed for sample A. However, as the number of passes was increased, the basal pole split was converted into a single peak for samples B and C. The basal intensity of sample C became almost double than that of sample A. It was concluded that a higher reduction per pass resulted in a larger volume fraction of DRXed grains and a weaker basal texture.

The red-bed deposits in northern Iraq are situated in an active foreland basin adjacent to the Zagros Orogenic Belt, bound to the north by the Iranian plate thrust over the edge of the Arabian plate. The red-bed successions are composed of alternating red and brown silty mudstones, purplish red calcareous siltstone, fine- to coarse-grained pebbly sandstone and conglomerate. The red beds in the current study can be divided into four parts showing a trend of upward coarsening with fine-grained deposits at the top. A detailed petrographic study was carried out on the sandstone units. The clastic rocks consist mainly of calcite cemented litharenite with rock fragments (volcanic, metamorphic and sedimentary), quartz and minor feldspar. The petrographic components reflect the tectonic system in the source area, laterally ranging from a mixed orogenic and magmatic arc in Mawat–Chwarta area to recycled orogenic material rich in sedimentary rock fragments in the Qandel area. The Cretaceous–Palaeogene foreland basin of northern Iraq formed to the southwest of the Zagros Suture Zone and the Sanandaj–Sirjan Zone of western Iran. During Palaeogene time deposition of the red beds was caused by renewed shortening in the thrust sheets overlying the Arabian margin with uplift of radiolarites (Qulqula Formation), resulting in an influx of radiolarian debris in addition to continuing ophiolitic detritus. Mixed sources, including metamorphic, volcanic and sedimentary terranes, were present during deposition of the upper part of the red beds.

Background: Coarctation of the aorta is a very common congenital heart malformation. It is frequently associated with other abnormalities. Echocardiography is the diagnostic modality for congenital heart disease. The carotid-subclavian artery index and the isthmus/descending aorta index were proposed for establishing the diagnosis of coarctation of the aorta. Objectives: The objectives were to evaluate such indexes and to look for other echocardiographic predictors of coarctation of the aorta. Method Echocardiography was reviewed for infants with coarctation of the aorta, as well as a control group, using the Echo PAC Dimension. Standard measurements were obtained from different sites of the aortic arch. Results: A total of 31 infants 3 months or less with coarctation of the aorta and 50 infants with no coarctation of the aorta were reviewed. Abnormal aortic valve was present in 65% of those with coarctation of the aorta. The diameters of the proximal and the distal transverse aortic arch were smaller in the coarctation of the aorta group. The distance between the aortic arch branches was longer in the coarctation of the aorta group. Apart from the ratio between distance 2 and the ascending aorta, other ratios/indexes were smaller in the coarctation of the aorta group than in the control group. Conclusion: The presence of abnormal aortic valve, a carotid subclavian index <1.1, I/AAo ratio <0.53, and DTA/AAo ratio <0.6 suggest the presence of coarctation of the aorta. Neonates with large patent ductus arteriosus and any of these findings need close observation until the patent ductus arteriosus closes. If the arch is difficult to assess by two-dimensional echocardiography, the patient may need further imaging to rule out coarctation of the aorta.

Nanostructured Al-Mg bulk samples with compositions in the range of 10 – 40 at.% Mg have been produced by consolidation of mechanical alloyed powders. Powders with composition Al90Mg10 and Al80Mg20 were consolidated into highly dense specimens by hot extrusion. Room temperature compression tests for the Al90Mg10 specimen reveal interesting mechanical properties, namely, a high strength of 630 MPa combined with a plastic strain of about 4 %. The increase of the Mg content to 20 at.% increases the strength by about 100 MPa but it suppresses plastic deformation. The Al60Mg40 powder was consolidated at different temperatures by spark plasma sintering and the effect of the sintering temperature on microstructure, density and hardness have been studied. The results reveal that both density and hardness of the consolidated samples increase with increasing sintering temperature, while retaining a nanocrystalline structure. These results indicate that powder metallurgy is a suitable processing route for the production of nanocrystalline Al-Mg alloys with promising mechanical properties.
