2. B. L. Add. MS. 12498 fol. 118r. A previous entry (on fol. 116r) is dated 7 December 1613 and relates to work in November: ‘Mask Banketthowse – lxxxvlixixs’. Since no masque is known to have been staged at Whitehall in November 1613 this probably refers to early preparations for The Somerset Masque. A subsequent entry (fol. 120r), dated 15 February 1613/14 and relating to the previous January, may well represent the cost of altering the Banqueting House for performances of The Irish Masque on 29 December 1613 and 3 January 1613/14: ‘Mask in ye banketting bowse vjlixviijsviid’. The only other masque held there in January was The Mask of Flowers, an expensive production staged by Gray's Inn and paid for by Sir Francis Bacon: see Chambers, IV, 59–60.
