The algebra of one-sided inverses of a polynomial algebra Pn in n variables is obtained from Pn by adding commuting left (but not two-sided) inverses of the canonical generators of the algebra Pn. The algebra is isomorphic to the algebra

of scalar integro-differential operators provided that char(K) = 0. Ignoring the non-Noetherian property, the algebra belongs to a family of algebras like the nth Weyl algebra An and the polynomial algebra P2n. Explicit generators are found for the group Gn of automorphisms of the algebra and for the group of units of (both groups are huge). An analogue of the Jacobian homomorphism AutK-alg (Pn) → K* is introduced for the group Gn (notice that the algebra is non-commutative and neither left nor right Noetherian). The polynomial Jacobian homomorphism is unique. Its analogue is also unique for n > 2 but for n = 1, 2 there are exactly two of them. The proof is based on the following theorem that is proved in the paper:

We answer a weaker version of the classification problem for the homotopy types of (n — 2)-connected closed orientable (2n — 1)-manifolds. Let n ≥ 6 be an even integer and let X be an (n — 2)-connected finite orientable Poincaré (2n — 1)-complex such that Hn-1 (X;ℚ) = 0 and Hn-1 (X;ℤ2) = 0. Then its loop space homotopy type is uniquely determined by the action of higher Bockstein operations on Hn-1 (X; ℤp) for each odd prime p. A stronger result is obtained when localized at odd primes.

In this paper we use the norm of bounded variation to study multilinear operators and polynomials on Banach lattices. As a result, we obtain when all continuous multilinear operators and polynomials on Banach lattices are regular. We also provide new abstract M- and abstract L-spaces of multilinear operators and polynomials and generalize all the results by Grecu and Ryan, from Banach lattices with an unconditional basis to all Banach lattices.

Let (X, d) be a quasi-convex, complete and separable metric space with reference probability measure m. We prove that the set of real-valued Lipschitz functions with non-zero pointwise Lipschitz constant m-almost everywhere is residual, and hence dense, in the Banach space of Lipschitz and bounded functions. The result is the metric analogous to a result proved for real-valued Lipschitz maps defined on ℝ2 by Alberti et al.

In this paper, we use the Riemann zeta function ζ(x) and the Bessel zeta function ζμ(x) to study the log behaviour of combinatorial sequences. We prove that ζ(x) is log-convex for x > 1. As a consequence, we deduce that the sequence {|B2n|/(2n)!}n ≥ 1 is log-convex, where Bn is the nth Bernoulli number. We introduce the function θ(x) = (2ζ(x)Γ(x + 1)) 1/x, where Γ(x) is the gamma function, and we show that logθ(x) is strictly increasing for x ≥ 6. This confirms a conjecture of Sun stating that the sequence is strictly increasing. Amdeberhan et al. defined the numbers an(μ) = 2 2n+1 (n + 1)!(μ+ 1)nζμ(2n) and conjectured that the sequence {an(μ)}n≥1 is log-convex for μ = 0 and μ = 1. By proving that ζμ(x) is log-convex for x > 1 and μ > -1, we show that the sequence {an(≥)}n>1 is log-convex for any μ > - 1. We introduce another function θμ,(x) involving ζμ(x) and the gamma function Γ(x) and we show that logθμ(x) is strictly increasing for x > 8e(μ + 2)2. This implies that

We show that three- and four-stage Bott manifolds are classified up to diffeomorphism by their integral cohomology rings. In addition, any cohomology ring isomorphism between two three-stage Bott manifolds can be realized by a diffeomorphism between the Bott manifolds.

Initial–boundary-value problems for the two-dimensional Zakharov–Kuznetsov equation posed on bounded rectangles and on a strip are considered. Spectral properties of a linearized operator and critical sizes of domains are studied. An exponential decay rate of regular solutions for the original nonlinear problems is proved.

We investigate the global versions of the Kleinecke–Shirokov theorem for skew derivations in Banach algebras. Centralizing skew derivations on Banach algebras are also studied.

The aim of this paper is to present a sign-changing solution for a class of radially symmetric asymptotically linear Schrödinger equations. The proof is variational and the Ekeland variational principle is employed as well as a deformation lemma combined with Miranda’s theorem.

We develop the diffeomorphism invariant Colombeau-type algebra of nonlinear generalized functions in a modern and compact way. Using a unifying formalism for the local setting and on manifolds, the construction becomes simpler and more accessible than before.

We consider a natural generalization of symmetric Nakayama algebras, namely, symmetric special biserial algebras with at most one non-uniserial indecomposable projective module. We describe the basic algebras explicitly by quiver and relations, then classify them up to derived equivalence and up to stable equivalence of Morita type. This includes the weakly symmetric algebras of Euclidean type n, as studied by Bocian et al., as well as some algebras of dihedral type.

We calculate the centralizers of elements, finite subgroups and virtually cyclic subgroups of Houghton’s group Hn. We discuss various Bredon (co)homological finiteness conditions satisfied by Hn including the Bredon (co)homological dimension and FPn conditions, which are analogues of the ordinary cohomological dimension and FPn conditions, respectively.

This paper obtains criteria for a Fano variety X defined over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero with normal crossing singularities to be smoothable. In particular, we show that X is smoothable by a flat deformation X → Δ with smooth total space X if and only if where D is the singular locus of X.
