REVISED CHEMICAL FORMULAE
A paper on the mineral vigrishinite has been recently published [Mineralogical Magazine, 82 (2018), 787–807] in which the ideal chemical formula of the mineral is given as NaZnTi4(Si2O7)2O3(OH)(H2O)4, with sodium as an essential constituent. These data were examined carefully by the CNMNC officers and were considered reliable. Accordingly it was agreed to modify the formula of vigrishinite in the official IMA List of Minerals.
A paper on the mineral cafarsite has been recently published [European Journal of Mineralogy, 30 (2018), 859–868] in which the ideal chemical formula of the mineral is revised as (Ca,Na,☐)19Ti8Fe3+4Fe2+4(AsO3)28F, with no water molecules or hydroxyls, and with fluorine as an essential constituent. These data were examined carefully by the CNMNC officers and were considered reliable. Accordingly it was agreed to modify the formula of cafarsite in the official IMA List of Minerals.
