  • A revision of the staphylinid subfamily Xantholininae (Coleoptera) of America north of Mexico is presented including a historical review, a discussion of diagnostic characters and techniques, and some conclusive remarks, mostly on the zoogeography of this group in North America.Twenty-eight genera and 105 species are recognized. Six genera and 47 species are described as new, one new name is proposed for a species in the genus Oxybleptes, and new combinations are proposed for 25 species.Nematolinus Casey, 1906, and Oligolinus Casey, 1906, are placed in synonymy with Lithocharodes Sharp, 1876; Leiolinus Casey, 1906, with Hesperolinus Casey, 1906; Paraphallus Bordoni, 1972, with Xantholinus Dejean, 1821, and Phalacrolinus Coiffait, 1972, is placed in synonymy with Hypnogyra Casey, 1906.
