Diphenhydramine hydrochloride has been found to have a sedative effect, and various modifications of it have been prepared in order to enhance its effect. A promising variant is Covatin, which is p-butylthiodiphenylmethyl-2-dimethyl-aminoethyl sulphide hydrochloride; or, structurally:
