Consequences of breast-feeding for mother and child

Summary
Breast-feeding is an integral part of the reproductive process. This paper reviews the consequences of breast-feeding and bottle-feeding for the child and the mother with emphasis on health parameters and child spacing. Controversies that have arisen in this field are considered. Methodological problems in study design and areas for further research are discussed.
