AUSTERITÀ CONSERVATRICE E RIGORE SOCIALISTA: CHE DIFFERENZA? I

Introduzione

I partiti socialisti dell'Europa meridionale sono gli attori politici sui quali piò si è concentrata l'attenzione della comunità scientifica negli anni ottanta. Tre ragioni, piò o meno connesse, spiegano questo fenomeno, che rappresenta una svolta rispetto all'indifferenza, o all'interesse marginale, a lungo prodotti dal tema. La prima — ovvia — è la rapida scalata al potere dei partiti in questione, sull'onda di maggioranze elettorali senza precedenti nei paesi interessati. Quali caratteristiche avrebbe assunto la loro azione di governo, gli obiettivi ai quali si sarebbe rivolta e le probabilità di successo nel conseguirli, sono stati gli interrogativi inizialmente trattati dai commentatori, piò o meno suggestionati dalle ambizioni programmatiche del socialismo francese (Wright 1984; Beaud 1983), o dal piò cauto, ma pur sempre significativo, «cambio» annunciato da quelli spagnoli (Psoe 1982) o portoghesi.
