Spatial Distribution Pattern and Sampling Plan for the Blister Midge, Erosomyia indica Grover (Cecidomyiidae: Diptera) in India*

Abstract

Studies on the spatial distribution and sampling of infestation of the blister midge, Erosomyia indica Grover, were carried out in a mango orchard at Bangalore, India. The spatial distribution of the infestation on the panicles were studied using the parameters variance-mean ratio, and Lloyd's index of patchiness. It was found that the midge infestation tended to follow a random distribution pattern. The infestation was not significantly different among the sections of the canopy delineated horizontally and vertically. However, infestations in east lower, south lower and south upper were significantly correlated to the total infestation. The sample sizes were apportioned to these sections using regression analysis, thus arriving at a sectional random sampling plan for better precision estimates. For the data on percentage infestation, angular transformation was found to be satisfactory. These results have application in field studies leading to the management of the pest on mango.

Résumé

Ces études sur la distribution spatiale et échantillonage de l'infestation de l'ampoule mouche du mange, Erosomyia indica Grover sont été realisé dans un jardin du mange á Bangalore, Inde. La distribution spatiale de l'infestation sur les inflorescence a été étudié utilisant les parametres rapport variance-moyenne, et Index rapiecession du Lloyd. L'infestation du mouche a suivé une modele de la distribution aléatoire. Les infestations sur les parties differences du dais demarquees horizontalement et verticalement n'ont été pas differentes significativement. Au contraire, infestations sur Gst inférieur, Sud inférieur et Sud supérieur sont été correle significativement avec infestation totale. Les d'echentillonage sont été repartitioné entre ces parties du dais utilisant la téchnique de la régression-ainsi, arrivant a une méthode de l'echantillonage aléatoire pour meilleure estimation avec une precision. Pour les donné en pourcentage, transformation anguláire a été satisfiasant. Ces resulats ont applications importance dans les études au Champ resultant dans une meilleurelutte contre ce ravageur du mange.
