A mathematical model for population growth of buprofezin treated brown planthopper Nilaparvata lugens Stal. (Homoptera: Delphacidae)

Abstract

Buprofezin treatment of brown planthopper, Nilaparvata lugens Stal. at sub-lethal doses resulted in the survival of individuals with varying reproductive potentials. From this reproductive potential of different stages, population build up of second generation was calculated. Logistic function was found to fit more closely the data on population growth at different concentrations. It could thus serve as a mathematical model for predicting the second generation population build up in a buprofezin treated population.

Résumé

La campagne de lutte au buprofezin contre le Nilaparvata lugens Stål, grand rongeur de tiges à des doses peu mortelles a eu pour résultat des individus survivants ayant des potentialités de reproduction variées.

A partir de ces différents niveaux de potentialité de reproduction, on a calculé la population constituée à la seconde génération. Il a été constaté que la fonction logistique correspondait le plus étroitement aux données sur l'accroissement numérique de la population considérée à points de concentration.

Cette constatation pourrait alors servir de modèle mathématique pour prédire l'accroissement de la population de la seconde génération dans une colonie soumise à la lutte au buprofezin.
