Effect of gamma radiation on the different stages of the angoumois grain moth, Sitotroga cerealella (Olivier) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae)

Abstract

The susceptibility of the different stages of Sitotroga cerealella (Olivier) to gamma radiation was studied. The stages arranged in a descending order according to the values of gamma radiation LD50 are: adults (190.100 krad) for females and 183.200 krad for males, pupae (6.039 krad), 3 days old eggs (5.570 krad), one week old larvae (4.800 krad), 1-day-old eggs (4.181 krad) and 2 weeks old larvae (3.056 krad).

La sensibilité des différents stades de Sitotroga cerealella (Olivier) aux radiations gamma a été étudiée. La sensibilité des insectes exprimée par Krad correspondant à la DL 50 varie suivant les stades: Adultes (190.100 krad) pour les femelles, (183.200 krad) pour les mâles; chrysalides (6.039 krad); oeufs de 3 jours (5.570 krad); larves âgées d'une semaine (4.800 krad); oeufs d'un jour (4.181 krad); larves âgées de deux semaines (3.056 krad).
