The observational characteristics of the p-modes of β Cep stars are compared to those of the g-modes of slowly pulsating B stars (SPBs). For the β Cep stars, previous reviews based on photometric surveys are updated with recent results from our high-resolution spectroscopic surveys. For the slowly pulsating B stars, it is the first time a broad observational overview can be given.
