Résumé

Les vermiculites Mg, Ca, Sr et Ba ont été étudiées par diffraction des rayons X et absorption infra-rouge.

Pour les vermiculites monocouches, l'espacement interréticulaire est compris entre 12·2 et 11·45 Å.

On distingue: (i) les vermiculites Ba; le cation, entouré de 5 à 6 molécules d'eau, est à environ 1Å du plan médian et il intéragit avec un hydroxyle structural du feuillet le plus proche, (ii) les vermiculites Mg, Ca et Sr; le cation, entrouré de 3 ou 4 molécules d'eau,est dans le plan médian ou dans son voisinage (0·3 Å), et il n'interagit pas avec les hydroxyles des feuillets.

Pour les vermiculites anhydres, l'espacement interréticulaire est inférieur à 10 Å, le cation est dans le plan médian et il intéragit avec les hydroxyles de 2 feuillets opposés.

A partir de ces résultats, complétés par les données de la bibliographie, des modéles sont proposés pour représenter l'organisation de l'espace interlamellaire.

Abstract

Based on detailed XRD and IR investigations, models are proposed for the arrangement of water molecules and exchangeable cations in the interlayer space of Mg-, Ca-, Sr- and Ba-vermiculites. For monolayer vermiculites with basal spacings between 12·2-11·45 Å two cases are distinguished: (i) Ba-vermiculite—where the cation, surrounded by 5–6 water molecules, is situated at ∼1 Å from the central plane of the interlayer and interacts with one single structural hydroxyl group of the nearest layer, (ii) Mg-, Ca- and Sr-vermiculites—where the cation is surrounded by 3 or 4 water molecules and is either in the central plane of the interlayer space or in its immediate neighbourhood (within 0·3 Å); no interaction with hydroxyl is detected. For the anhydrous vermiculites, where the basal spacing is less than 10 Å, the cation is in the central plane of the interlayer space and interacts with the hydroxyls of the two opposite layers.

Mg-, Ca-, Sr- u. Ba-Vermikulite wurden röntgenographisch und durch Ultrarot-Absorbtion untersucht. Für die Vermikulite mit einlagiger Zwischenschicht wird ein Schichtpaketabstand zwischen 12·2 und 11·45 Å anzusetzen sein. Man unterscheidet: Ba-Vermikulite; das Kation, umgeben von 5–6 Wassermolekülen, ist um etwa 1 Å aus der Mittellage heraus und steht in Wechselwirkung mit einem OH des am nächsten befindlichen Schichtpaketes. Mg-, Ca- u. Sr-Vermikulite; das Kation, das von 3 oder 4 Wassermolekülen umgeben ist, befindet sich in der Mittellage oder seiner Nachbarschaft (0·3 Å) und steht nicht in Wechselwirkjng mit den Hydroxylen der Schichtpakete. Für wasserfreie Vermikulite, dessen Raumbeanspruchung für die Zwischenschicht geringer als 10 Å ist, befindet sich das Kation in der Mittellage und weist Wechselwirkung mit den Hydroxylen der beiden angrenzenden Schichtpakete auf. Ausgehend von diesen Resultaten, die noch durch Literaturangaben ergänzt werden, wurden Modelle für die Darstellung der Anordnung im Zwischenschichtraum vorgeschlagen.

Basándose en investigaciones detalladas de difracción de rayos X y de rayos infrarrojos, se proponen modelos de la disposición de las moléculas de augua y los cationes intercambiables en el espacio interlaminar de vermiculitas Mg, Ca, Sr y Ba. Para las vermiculitas de una capa con espaciamientos basales entre 12·2 N 11·45 Å se distinguen dos casos: (i) Vermiculita Ba—en la que el catón, rodeado de 5–6 moléculas de agua, está situado a ∼1 Å del plano central del espacio entre capas e interactúa con un grupo hidroxilo de estructura simple de la capa más próxima; (ii) Vermiculitas Mg, Ca y Sr en las que el catión está rodeado de 3 0 4 moléculas de agua y está o bien en el plano central del espacio entre capas o bien en sus inmediaciones (a menos de 0·3 Å); no se detecta ninguna interacción con el hidroxilo. En el caso de las vermiculitas anhidras, en las que el espaciamiento basal es menor de 10 Å, el catión está en el plano central del espacio entre capas e interactúa con los hidroxilos de las dos capas opuestas.
