The Chondrilla gall midge, Cystiphora schmidti (Rübsaamen) comb. n. (Diptera, Cecidomyiidae). I. Taxonomy and description

Abstract

The taxonomic status of the Chondrilla gall midge, Cystiphora schmidti (Rübsaamen), is discussed and new generic and specific synonymy is established in the genus Cystiphora. Male, female and larval characters of C. schmidti are described and illustrated on the basis of specimens made available from recent studies of this species in Europe as part of a project to implement biological control of Chondrilla juncea in Australia.
