Summary

Our exchange of letters is now more an exchange of our innermost thoughts, something we have not been permitted for years. At long last I can picture Else in this peaceful place near the mountains – the Pfarrhaus Michaelis – and can tell that she finally feels unburdened and secure. We both have so many questions over how she might make the journey to England and at last dare to wonder how the future might look for us both – tough at first, with such limited options for employment and accommodation open to us. Simply being together will help us regain our former strength, however. It is bound to be summer in any case before this all comes to fruition, and that will make everything less difficult.
