Summary
This chapter serves to introduce electrophysiological and electrical principles that underlie deep brain stimulation (DBS), with the purpose of facilitating effective and efficient postoperative DBS device programming. Even as the field of DBS rapidly expands in terms of indications, targets, and methodologies, knowledge of these principles will serve the clinician well because these principles are fundamental to electrophysiologically based therapies.
