Summary
HAASTS BLUFF, NT (hahsts), 23 27S 131 53E (map 3), an Aboriginal community and a mountain in and near the Macdonnell ranges. The mountain, which is red in colour, was named by Ernest Giles in 1872 in honour of Julius von Haast, a New Zealand geologist and explorer. This community and that of Papunya (to the north) consist of Pitjantjatjara and Loritja people who govern a large area of land extending to the Western Australian border.
HABERFIELD, NSW (hab-ĕ-field [‘a’ as in ‘grab’]), an inner western Sydney suburb in ashfield Municipality (map 26:H6). It is noted for its Federation architecture.
HACKETT, ACT (hack-ĕi), a north-eastern suburb (pop. 3216) of the City of canberra (map 22A:D2). It was named after Sir John Hackett, a Western Australian newspaper editor who was a supporter, if a lukewarm one, of Federation.
HACKETTS GULLY, WA (hack-ĕts), an outer eastern Perth locality in the Shire of kalamunda (map 20:C2).
HACKHAM, SA (hack-ĕm) and Hackam West, two outer southern Adelaide suburbs in the City of noarlunga (map 21:B7). Hackham was probably named by Edward Castle after his birthplace in Gloucestershire, England.
HACKNEY, SA (hack-nee), an inner eastern Adelaide suburb in the Town of st peters (map 21:D8) but on the border of the City of Adelaide. It was named after Hackney in London.
HADSPEN, Tas. (had-spĕn), 41 30S 147 05E (map 7), a town (pop. 1089) in westbury Municipality and within the boundaries of the Launceston urban complex. It is mainly a residential area.
